Celebrating 250 Years of American Freedom and Liberty

By John Mullen

As America approaches its 250th birthday, we have much to celebrate and much to remember. Happy 250th Birthday to our wonderful country, the United States of America.

America is a democratic republic, combining democratic participation with a constitutional system designed to limit government power. Our citizens elect representatives while the Constitution establishes protections for individual rights and freedoms.

The Founding Principles of America

America's Founding Fathers demonstrated remarkable foresight in creating documents and governmental institutions designed to protect liberty and allow citizens the opportunity to prosper.

Our nation continues to evolve, but the fundamental principles of freedom, liberty, and constitutional government remain worth protecting.

Those freedoms came at a tremendous cost. Generations of Americans have sacrificed their lives and livelihoods to defend them, and we should never take them for granted.

Around the world, many people still live under governments that restrict basic freedoms and individual liberty. Authoritarian regimes in countries such as China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea provide reminders of how precious democratic institutions can be.

Protecting America's Future

Freedom requires vigilance. Our country must continue to protect its constitutional principles while ensuring that future generations understand the sacrifices that made those freedoms possible.

As we celebrate 250 years of American history, we should also look toward the future with gratitude, responsibility, and hope.

I pray for those around the world who live under oppression, and I pray for the United States and its continued strength and prosperity.

May God continue to guide and protect our nation, and may the principles expressed in “In God We Trust” help guide America forward for generations to come.

Happy 250th Birthday, America!
